Hello Grizzlies,

I hope you all are doing well and staying healthy out there.  As you may have heard, the school shutdown has been extended to May 1st.  There are so many issues and troubles out there, it seems a little strange to talk football, but there are a few updates that I want you guys to know about.  As this situation evolves, so must we.
This is uncharted territory for all of us.  This time can be viewed as a negative, or you can turn it into a positive.  Take this opportunity to grow and mature by prioritizing the things that are important in your life and disciplining yourself to become a better, more independent person. Here are some things to keep in mind:
1) Be a proactive student.  Make sure you are prioritizing your education and your tasks for your classes. Create a daily plan for yourself that allows you to take care of your school requirements.  Check your student email regularly, make sure you are logging onto your teachers' websites, and stay on top of your responsibilities.  Remember, your grades at the end of this quarter, which is the end of the school year, will determine your eligibility for football next Fall.
2) Plan to exercise.  Coach Cooper has been sharing workouts with the Advanced Weight Training classes.  Make sure you are getting out and exercising.  You will need to be creative as gyms are closed and we cannot open the Palmer Center for workouts.  This is going to set us back a bit.  The luxury of having the daily weight training class to motivate you to workout is not available right now, so you need to make sure you are getting out and getting some work done.  For us to compete next year, we will need to come into June with players that are in shape.  We can worry about strength training during the summer.  You should definitely be doing some sort of consistent cardiovascular work (running), some speed work (Coach Cooper's run drills), and core work (abs, planks, etc.).  As we have learned from working in Coach Smith's Functional Fitness Center, you do not necessarily need weights to build strength and endurance.  Bre creative.  A great thing for you to do a couple times a week is to do some Yoga or deep stretching.  All of our opponents are in the same boat as us, so we will need to separate ourselves based on pushing ourselves individually to workout.
3) Practice social distancing.  The only way we get back together in June, is to make sure we are practicing social distancing and committing to doing our part.  Do not get together with your buddies to workout.  Do not meet up to hang out.  Stay inside with your families and take care of your responsibilities.
1) We are scheduled for some events in May for Football.  As of right now, we are planning to go forward with the events.  We may have to adjust if the shutdown continues past May 1st.
May - June Events - Plan For:
May 5, 7, 12, 13: Varsity/JV Mini Camp Nights in the Stadium: 5:00 - 7:00pm
May 14: Varsity/JV Registration Night: 6:00 - 8:00pm
May 18: Football Physicals - Main Office: 5:00 - 7:00pm
May 27: Frosh Registration Night: 5:00 - 7:00pm
June 1 - 5: Varsity/JV Football Camp @ GB: 8:00 - 10:30 am; 5:00 - 8:30pm
June 6 - 14: Varsity/JV Players Off
June 8 - 11: Frosh Top Gun - Week 1 @ GB: 8:00 - 11:30 am
I will be in touch in regards to some program building activities that we are planning while we are in this shutdown.  Please stay safe and healthy.  Let me know if you need anything.  Let's make sure we develop our tools during this time that will allow us to persevere once the season starts up.  I love you guys.  Be safe.  GRIZZLY PRIDE!!!
